GWU Job Shadow Days for GW VALOR Students - Spring 2016
The George Washington University Center for Career Services Veteran Careers Initiative is pleased to announce the Job Shadow Day series designed to connect GW VALOR students to employers. Students will be able to attend site visits and even shadow employers at their work places to find out more about the organization! Students will be able to attend group tours or spend time with a specific employer mentor to accomplish the following goals:
· Allow a student to have the opportunity to observe a work environment they may have a career interest in.
· Gain a better understanding of the type of jobs available within a specific work environment and the best ways to launch a career within that industry.
· Network with interested employers and learn about issues that vary from job expectations to accommodations.
· Develop a mentoring relationship with an employer, where appropriate.
How Does it Work?
Students must complete a form to apply to participate in the program and career services staff will manage the outreach to develop a list of participating employer organizations. Student career interests will be matched with employers who align to those interests, as appropriate.
Which Employe rs Are Participating This Spring?
What happens on site?
It is anticipated that each student will spend a minimum of two hours on site and receive an orientation and tour and have the opportunity to meet with leaders and staff to better understand the mission and vision of the organization.
Is this program for Graduating Students?
At whatever point you are in your academic progress through GW, this program can help you figure out future career success strategies and will certainly help you understand how to conduct a better job search.
What if I have a Class Conflict?
This program is purely voluntary but does provide a chance for you to ‘test out’ a work environment. We take into consideration student schedules and academic priorities like midterms and finals, so we try to plan events within Washington D.C. in the morning hours.
Research the host organizations (as more info becomes available) to determine which you would be interested in visiting (you may apply for more than one). Determine which of their departments or work areas align with your areas of interests and/or studies, and then complete the following:
